The Table That Unites: A Vision of True Communion

Series: A Unique Unity

Preaching from 1 Corinthians 11:17–34, this message calls the Church to rediscover the radical, unifying power of the Lord’s Supper. In a culture—and a church—often marked by division, Paul rebukes the Corinthians for turning the sacred table into a reflection of social status, rather than a proclamation of Christ’s sacrificial love. Some ate abundantly while others went hungry, showing contempt for the very unity the sacrament was meant to create.

Today, as in Corinth, we are tempted to let cultural divisions, unspoken judgments, and personal differences seep into our sacred spaces. But at the communion table, all believers—regardless of wealth, background, race, or maturity—are reminded that they are equal recipients of grace. Communion isn’t just about remembering Jesus’ death; it’s about embodying the unity that His death made possible (1 Corinthians 11:26).

The table is a “preview,” a holy spoiler of the future kingdom where perfect unity will be realized. Until that day comes, we are called to practice that unity now—laying down preferences, divisions, and pride—so that we can truly proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
