In this sermon, the congregation reflects on God’s abundant and unconditional love, illustrated through the parable commonly known as the Prodigal Son, but here reframed as the “Prodigal Father” (Luke 15:11-24). Jesus shares this story to show that God’s nature is that of a loving parent who gives freely and abundantly to His children, even when they may not deserve it. While the son returns destitute and filled with shame, the father’s response is not based on the son’s behavior but solely on his love. Without waiting for an apology or explanation, the father gives generously—offering a robe, a ring, sandals, and a celebration (Luke 15:22-24).
This story illustrates the lavishness of God’s love, which extends to all people regardless of their actions. God’s giving is unconditional and unceasing, not based on human worthiness but on divine generosity. This is reinforced in other scriptures, such as 2 Corinthians 9:7, where Paul reminds believers that God loves a cheerful giver. Believers are encouraged to respond to God’s generosity out of gratitude and love, not out of compulsion or obligation.
Through this “hit pause” stewardship series, the congregation is invited to prayerfully consider their giving as a joyful response to God’s provision. In reflecting on God’s role as the ultimate provider, members are encouraged to give not to earn God’s favor but in gratitude, recognizing that everything they have is already a gift from Him (Philippians 4:19).
This message encourages the congregation to view giving as a reflection of God’s love, letting generosity flow naturally from a heart moved by God’s example. Even as the church faces financial needs, this series asks members to align their giving with the spirit of joyful and willing response, trusting in God’s endless provision.
