The Church You Can’t See: Discovering Unity in the Invisible Church

Series: A Unique Unity

This sermon launches a new series on 1 Corinthians by exploring Paul’s greeting in 1 Corinthians 1:1–3. While the Corinthian church struggled with division, Paul opens his letter by affirming their deeper, unshakable unity—rooted not in agreement or affiliation, but in their shared identity in Jesus Christ. Drawing on the Protestant Reformation’s concept of the “invisible church” and the powerful legacy of enslaved Christians who worshipped in secret, the message highlights a unique kind of unity that transcends cultural, political, and theological differences. We are unified not because of what we have in common on the surface, but because of the deeper connection God creates through Christ—a unity seen not with our eyes but with faith.
