Everyday Peacemaking: Living as Agents of God’s Restoration

February 23, 2025

Series: Truly

Book: Matthew

This sermon explores Jesus’ call to peacemaking, emphasizing that it is not just for politicians or humanitarian organizations but for all followers of Christ. Drawing from personal experiences, including a transformative journey to Pakistan, the message illustrates how peacemaking requires us to move toward conflict with tools of healing rather than winning.

Jesus models this through his own life, showing that true peace comes not from power or dominance but through sacrificial love. The mission of God, as seen throughout Scripture—from the Garden of Eden to the Cross—is one of restoration, where God continually sees, immerses, contends, and restores. As followers of Jesus, we are called to be co-laborers in this work of peacemaking, using the gifts and opportunities already in our hands to mend broken relationships, communities, and systems.

The sermon challenges us to ask: How can we be peacemakers in our everyday lives? Whether in our families, workplaces, or communities, we are sent as agents of Christ’s reconciliation. By embodying humility, service, and justice, we participate in God’s work of making all things new. Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:9—”Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”—remind us that peacemaking is not an optional add-on to faith but the very essence of following Christ.
