Childlike Love: Living the Greatest Commandments with Passion and Purpose

March 16, 2025

Book: Mark

In today’s message, we are invited to return to the foundational teachings of Jesus: love God and love your neighbor. Rooted in Mark 12:28-34, Jesus reminds us—and surprisingly, agrees with a scribe—that these two commandments are the greatest, surpassing all religious rituals. Loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loving our neighbor as ourselves, isn’t a suggestion but a way to center our lives in God’s kingdom.

Children often show us how to live out this love. Their openness, curiosity, and uninhibited joy model what it looks like to love fully—with all their passion, energy, and gratitude. Kids remind us to love now, without hesitation, without waiting for the perfect moment.

As adults, we are often distracted by routines, to-do lists, insecurities, and societal pressures. But Jesus calls us to return to childlike faith—believing that we are deeply loved, just as we are, and invited to love others with the same wholeheartedness. Through simple acts—listening, serving, caring—we reflect God’s love.
